Iowa Workforce Development Releases Free Labor/Employment Law Poster

The new “9-in-1” poster, which includes all state and federal required labor and employment law notices, is now available at no cost to Iowa employers. The poster includes all current language, including the recently revised federal Family and Medical Leave Act.

"Iowa Workforce Development provides this all inclusive poster as a convenience for Iowa employers," indicated Elisabeth Buck, Iowa Workforce Development Director.

The mandatory Iowa Smoke Free Air Act poster is not included in the Nine-in-One regulatory poster as the smoke free poster is designed to be displayed where customers can view the information. Additional information on the smoking lay and sample signs can be obtained at www.iowasmokefreeair.gov.

Copies of the poster can be obtained by contacting one of the 55 Iowa Workforce Development Centers across the state. Contact information is available at www.iowaworkforce.org.

Iowa's Layoff Aversion Project
Iowa’s Layoff Aversion Project includes the thought that layoff aversion involves a “continuum” of strategies and ideas to assist business and workers as well as communities when responding to a layoff and crisis. Not only do we want to work with communities to assist businesses in preventing layoffs but we also want to assist those workers who have been laid off by shortening the length of time before they start working their next job.

An initiative engaging Faith Based and Community Organizations in Iowa Workforce Development... This is a unique resource that creates portals into the Iowa Workforce Development One-Stop system for communities that may not know about our employment services, may be too far away or may not be comfortable entering a government office building. Iowa Smokefree Air Act Signs
The Iowa Smokefree Air Act goes into effect July 1, 2008. Attached here is a link to the Department of Public Health’s web site, http://www.iowasmokefreeair.gov/ that provides a free mandatory “no smoking” sign. Public Health officials state that the “no smoking” signs must be posted at every entrance to a public place and place of employment where smoking is not allowed. The web site also contains helpful “Frequently Asked Questions and Answers” and other information.

Unemployment Insurance Tax System (UITS)
Iowa Employers can file their quarterly Employer's Contribution & Payroll Report online. The UITS also features automated calculations such as computing the taxable wages and contributions due, ePayment options enabling employers to pay their UI contributions by eCheck, Credit Card or submit a payment voucher with their paper check, save and return feature for system re-entry at a later time, and online help that will guide the user through the filing process. Employer Web Site For Child Support
Employers now may go online to www.iowachildsupport.gov to complete most of their child support business, including make payments, report newly hired or rehired employees or contractors, and report employee terminations or absences.

The revised Successful Interviewing Guide provides valuable information on the application and interviewing process. The Guide was developed by Iowa Workforce Development with input from the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

USERRA Military Service Poster
U.S. Department of Labor officials released a new poster March 10, 2005, that they require all employers to post at their worksite. The poster is required under the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA).
